Based on the data provided on the BBB website, AEC Alarms has had a total of 8 complaints file over the past 3 years. Five of these complaints pertain to issues with their products/services, two are a billing/collections issue and another one is filed for sales/advertising concern.

One of the published complaints was about the failure of the business to render refund for services not rendered. According to an 81 year old male complainant, he and his wife have been loyal customers of AEC Alarms for the past 20 years. However, he claimed that recently, he had discovered that AEC Alarms has not been monitoring their alarm system because their equipment is unable to receive signal from the AT&T voice, the customer’s telecom provider.

When a technician was dispatched to their home, they were informed that their system will not be able to receive signal unless they upgrade, which meant that for the past two years, the monitoring service that they were paying for was actually not in use.

The customer raised that issue that despite their knowledge, the company failed to inform them that their monitoring service was not functioning well and they were led to believe they were protected. The customer found this highly deception and unconscionable. Despite repeated talks and complaints filed, the customer had not received any refund of $600, the amount demanded.

AEC Alarms responded to this complaint by stating that it was expressly stated in the contract that in the event the phone line is disconnected, out of order or placed on vacation, signals will not be received from the alarm system to AEC monitoring center. AEC claims that it was also stated in the contract that their company will not assume liability for any interruptions of monitoring arising from the unavailability of the telephone service. In addition, they have repeatedly requested their customers to test their alarm system on a regular basis to ensure proper communication.

In view of this, the company offered the customer several options. One is to change their phone service back to an analog phone line to ensure the alarm system can communicate and send signals. The other is as courtesy extended to a long-term client, the company has offered a heavily discounted rate for the upgrade of their alarm system that is capable of transmitting signals using the cellular network. This thereby eliminates the need for an analog phone line. The labor and materials of the said upgrade is said to amount to $600, which the company has generously waived and offered the service free of charge. However, the customer has declined the offer. BBB determined that AEC has made a reasonable offer to the customer, which was declined.
